Ciao a tutti, sono Miriam, sono un architetto e vengo dall'Italia. Oggi voglio parlarvi di un problema globale molto diffuso: lo sfruttamento non sostenibile delle risorse naturali.Un esempio particolarmente emblematico è quello del lago d’Aral, situato tra Kazakistan e Uzbekistan. Un tempo era uno dei laghi più grandi del mondo, ma negli ultimi decenni si è quasi completamente prosciugato, a causa di un utilizzo intensivo e mal pianificato delle sue acque, soprattutto per l’irrigazione agricola.Questo ha causato un disastro ambientale, ma anche sociale. Le comunità locali, in gran parte formate da pescatori, hanno perso la loro principale fonte di sostentamento e sono state costrette a cambiare completamente il loro modo di vivere.Il clima è cambiato, l’economia è crollata, e l’intero equilibrio del territorio è stato stravolto.Tutto questo ci insegna quanto sia fondamentale usare le risorse in modo responsabile: perché quando un ambiente si degrada, anche la vita delle persone che lo abitano ne viene profondamente colpita.

Today I want to talk to you about a widespread global issue: the unsustainable exploitation of natural resources.A particularly emblematic example is that of the Aral Sea, located between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It was once one of the largest lakes in the world, but in recent decades it has almost completely dried up due to intensive and poorly planned use of its waters, especially for agricultural irrigation.This has caused not only an environmental disaster but also a social one. The local communities, largely made up of fishermen, lost their main source of livelihood and were forced to completely change their way of life.The climate changed, the economy collapsed, and the entire balance of the region was disrupted.All of this teaches us how essential it is to use resources responsibly-because when an environment deteriorates, the lives of the people who inhabit it are deeply affected as well.
