I’m Mishal, from Kerala - a land known for its rivers, rain, and natural beauty. But in recent years, this paradise has been facing a painful transformation.
Just days ago, a tragic landslide struck Mundakai in Wayanad, a peaceful, hilly region of Kerala. Lives were lost. Families shattered. What was once a scenic village turned into a site of sorrow.
This is no longer rare. Flash floods, landslides, overflowing rivers, and cloudbursts are becoming more frequent. Kerala’s monsoon, once life-giving, now brings fear. And it’s not just nature - it’s us.
Deforestation, unregulated quarrying, rampant urbanization, and climate change are tearing apart the ecological balance we once cherished. Our hills are weakened. Our rivers are choking. Our actions have consequences - and people are paying the price with their lives.
This must stop.
We must protect what remains - for us, and for the generations to come. Let us honor those we’ve lost by choosing a different path: one of responsibility, sustainability, and respect for nature.
With gratitude to YAC for the collaboration.
